This is a great all around clock radio, but it does have a few draw backs. First what i like.
-I love the Atomic Clock feature. Never have to worry about adjusting it after a while, like every other clock. The battery back-up makes this a virtually worry free. I anticipate a flawless adjustment for day light savings (as with my other atomic clocks).
-The IPOD/PHONE dock is nice and convenient, seems to work for everything my wife needs. Receives messages and calls while docked and charging. Not sure if it will do so while playing music. Over all, this feature is very satisfactory.
-Radio station tuning is average to above average. It is significantly better than a basic clock radio, but not as good as say a stereo system.
-Same with the overall sound. Has very good to excellent overall sound for a clock radio, very adequate for a bedroom. If you want Bose quality sound in a clock radio, then buy a Bose Wave Music system. I never got from any advertising/description (inferred or otherwise) that this was some how intended to replace an actual stereo system for my music needs. The sound is well below a full feature stereo system. I would not use this as a primary means to listen to music.
-The display is nice and legible. I like the date being displayed and the ICONs for the alarms are clear, and easy to tell at a glance which one is on. Other reviews complained of being too bright at night or too soft during the day. I would agree that it can be too soft during the day, particularly with the plastic cover over the LDC display creating reflective glare, which I suppose is situational and perhaps unique to our situation. But when the display is set at the brightest setting, it is clearly visible from all parts of the room, glare or no glare. Unless you require complete darkness to sleep, or have the clock radio display inches from your face, I don't believe the brighter levels would cause a problem. It is not brighter than other ambient light present at night, especially if you have kids and night lights. But the brighter display levels do produce considerably more light than a standard clock radio display. Over all, there is room for improvement with the display, but not a deal breaker.
Some of the draw backs:
-The first thing for me was the size. For a clock radio, this has a larger foot print than what I would consider for an average clock radio. But it certainly fits onto a basic night stand. If you are upgrading from a traditional clock radio, this may be an issue.
-Settings control. When adjusting settings, you use the volume button/wheel to cycle through various settings. The precision of this is not very good. It wants to advances one or two settings too far when cycling through. You have to sometimes really work at getting to the desired setting.
Again, I really like this Clock radio overall. I would have given it 5 stars, but for the chunkiness of the settings, large foot print aside. One thing to keep in mind; few if any products do everything the best. For example, the IPHONE has a lot of great features and functionality, but it is not the best cell phone I have ever used. Same thing with this item. It has a nice collection of features and functions, but it will likely not be the best at any one of them let alone all of them. With that said, this is a very nice clock radio, that does an adequate job of all the features it offers. If you are looking for a Clock radio with Atomic Clock setting, IPOD/IPHONE docking, and above average sound (for a clock radio), then I would recommend, and have recommended to friends.

Wanting to replace an old stereo clock radio in my bedroom, I started searching online to see what was available. Here on Amazon.com, I found a number of clock radios, and looked for one that sounded good, as well as functioned well. I soon came across two made by Sangean, a brand I was unfamiliar with. But after reading the features and reviews by others who had bought them, I decided to try this black one.
I love it! While the settings require the manual to figure out, it isn't hard to set the clock and other settings with its help. I love the clear sound of the radio. I like bass tones, and this has plenty. The Sangean doesn't have problems with a weak or fuzzy radio signal like my old clock radio did. And one feature I also love is how the display shows the name of the artists, the song name and radio station. I don't know how many times over the years a song would gain my attention after it had started playing, but I didn't know for sure who it was by or the name of the song, and was frustrated when the dj would move on after the song without saying either of those things. NOW I can look and see! The display brightness is adjustable, and while some reviewers had trouble with how bright it can be, I am not bothered at all, and am pleased with it.
The clock has different ways to set it, including Atomic Clock. I was a bit concerned with trying that because I have another wall Atomic Clock in the house, which takes spells of losing its settings for hours at a time, but so far that hasn't happened with the clock radio. It takes a while for it to set itself, but it's been rock solid ever since.
A dock for iPods - which also can charge the iPod - is included. I don't have one, so I don't have a use for that, but if I do get one sometime in the future the dock is there for me to use. I just keep the slot covered to keep out dirt.
I'd have to say that Sangean has made an excellent clock radio with lots of great features!

Everything about this clock radio is terrific, until you lay your head down on the pillow and you realize you cannot see the clock! I had to make a 3 inch wedge platform to raise the back in order to have the lcd screen visible to me laying down. Also, the brightness control only goes one way, so if you pass by the setting you want, you must go all the way around to set it properly.
